    Ultrasound device

Requirements profile

The Ultrasound XS ultrasound unit is a highly engineered, mobile workstation that must perfectly meet the ergonomic requirements of the user. The control panel and the monitor can be individually adjusted in height and angle. The probes (sensors) are optimally placed within easy reach. The cables are routed inside the unit to avoid the typical “cable tangle”. The design also had to consider the role of the patient. He sees the ultrasound machine before and during the examination. Therefore, the design should help the unit to create a positive aura. It should be reliable and confidence-inspiring, but at the same time friendly so as not to make patients feel uncomfortable.

Implementation

With Ultrasound XS, Corpusdesign has developed a device that meets the requirements by using different, high-contrast materials and coloured light. The entire unit appears very structured and clear due to the integral design concept. The mixture of free-form surfaces and geometric basic bodies creates a dynamic tension that promises the user maximum performance and gives the patient confidence. Another special feature of this design concept is the innovative user interface. In contrast to existing devices, this study does completely without mechanical input media such as rotary knobs, trackball or buttons. The entire user interface is touch-sensitive. The former trackball is replaced by a spherically curved touchpad. Particularly innovative are the rotary controls that literally grow out of the surface and are used, for example, to set the camera properties (zoom, angle, depth, etc.). They work by touch and are completely joint-free. The entire operating surface can therefore be disinfected particularly easily by wiping. Furthermore, the software makes it possible to set up and save the user interface individually. The aim is to optimise the workflow (more examinations per time unit) while reducing or eliminating user errors.
